For 75 years, Church of the Chimes has been a cornerstone of faith, community, and service
in Sherman Oaks. Founded by the Staves family, the church began as a vision to share God’s word and create a spiritual home in the San Fernando Valley—
a mission that continues to thrive today.
As we reflect on our 75th anniversary, we were asked to envision a “dream project” that would honor our legacy and enhance our ministry. From that reflection, a simple yet powerful idea emerged:
The Church Garden — a space that nourishes
both body and spirit.
The COTC Church Garden will be a living expression of stewardship, health, and community connection. Rooted in our Christian values, the garden will provide fresh, homegrown produce to support the ministries and fellowship gatherings of our church. By cultivating our own fruits, herbs, and vegetables, we can serve food that reflects care, creation, and community.
The harvest will be used during church coffee hours, board meetings, youth events, and outreach initiatives—symbolically and literally feeding our congregation. Beyond its practical benefits, the garden will also serve as a gathering place—a space for teaching,
reflection, and intergenerational service where children, families, and elders can work side by side.

Our sincere thanks to the NACCC Vitality Ministry Council for reviewing and approving our proposal and providing us with a $2,500 Vitality Grant which will allow us to start our church garden project!
